Electric vs. propane forklifts: how to compare
Compare electric and propane forklift requirements for the workplace, charging or refuelling, duty cycle and total ownership cost.
Read the guideCompare general material-handling trucks by capacity, mast, tyre type and the space they need to work.
Counterbalance forklifts carry a load in front of the truck, balanced by the machine’s design and counterweight. They are available in different power systems and tyre configurations. They can be useful for varied pallet-handling tasks, but the exact model must fit the load and the workplace.
A nominal capacity is only a starting point. The rating for the actual load centre, mast height and fitted attachment is what matters. Send the supplier your heaviest complete load and its dimensions, including packaging and pallet.
Measure clear aisle width, door height, dock transitions and the turning space around racks. The quoted turning radius alone does not tell you the working aisle requirement. Ask for a layout check with the actual pallet dimensions and operating clearance.
Indoor smooth-floor work and outdoor yard work may call for different equipment. Compare electric, LPG and diesel options with the appropriate tyres, environmental suitability and infrastructure. Make the duty cycle and surface part of the written specification.

It is commonly considered for pallet handling, loading and unloading, and material movement. The application must match the particular truck’s rating, tyres and operating envelope.
Not automatically. Compare the manufacturer’s aisle requirement and stability or capacity ratings for the actual load and layout, rather than choosing by wheel count alone.
